Cleaning Headstones Memorials & Mausoleums
by Steve Paul Johnson
October 13, 2000
Recently published within the last couple months, this new book is as its name suggests, a tutorial on cleaning headstones. It is authored by Frederick M. Hueston, a certified stone restoration specialist.
The book offers 41 pages of information on how to clean, and how not to clean tombstones. Hueston discusses the properties of various stone types used to make tombstones and identifies their strengths and weaknesses. He also identifies several cleaning materials and practices that one should avoid.
He takes the reader into an easy to understand six-step approach to stone cleaning, and provides photographs illustrating each step. There are 14 pages devoted to removing various types of stains, including graffiti, as well as another 4 pages discussing the use of sealers, waxes, and impregnators.
The book is an excellent resource for beginners not already experienced with cleaning tombstones. Persons desiring additional information on stain removal might consider one of Hueston's others books, "Stain Removal for Stone, Tile and Concrete".
The author is the president of his company, "NTC Enterprises Inc.", which offers consulting on all types of stone and tile flooring. He is the director of The National Training Center for Stone & Masonry Trades. He also serves as the Publications and Seminar Director for the Marble Institute of America. He has authored several books on the care and restoration of various stone types and ceramics.
This book is available for $12.95 plus $4.00 shipping and can be ordered by visiting the NTC Enterprises Inc. website at: http://www.ntc-stone.com or by contacting them at:
