Background:
In the early 1800s when Joseph Gallup first came to this area, he was granted land in the Township of Melbourne. He was followed by other Gallup families, and so this community quickly became known as "Gallup Hill". As the population grew, a church was erected and a burial ground was established in 1876.
In 1950 the church was sold and moved, but the cemetery is still there. Stones, hand cut in field stone, or so old that the date is cut in Roman numerals, mark the resting places for the first Gallups, and other early pioneers of the area. Some of these stones were impossible to read, so my listing is not complete. The cemetery, also known as Gallup Hill Cemetery, is still active and is very well maintained.
