Background:
Austin is well known for the St.-Benoit-du-Lac Abbey, and for the Cecil Butters Memorial Hospital, a center for mentally disabled children, founded in 1947 by Lily Butters, and named in memory of her son, Cecil.
This cemetery is owned and maintained by the East Bolton Cemetery Association. A large portion of the stones date back to the 1800's, and it is the resting place of Lily Butters, her husband, and their son Cecil, as well as some of the descendants of Nicholas Austin 1st, Pioneer of the Townships of Bolton. It has always been well maintained, and it is still an active cemetery.
