Background: Chesterville is a scenic village in rural Quebec, sometimes called Little Switzerland with its winding mountainous road. It was originally part of Arthabaska County and now in the MRC of Centre-du-Quebec (Bois-Francs).
The Catholic parish of Saint-Paul de Chester was created in 1861. The original cemetery closed in 1877 and the bodies were removed to a second cemetery. The second cemetery was closed in 1911 and the bodies removed to the third and present cemetery.
