Calvary is located on Pierce Ave, just south of Marinette High School.

History

The earliest records show that Calvary Cemetery opened on Sept 1, 1891, however other records indicate that burials had been taken place here back to 1881.

Calvary Cemetery was established by Our Lady of Lourdes Congregation. Later on, title had passed to Marinette Catholic Central High School. The school did not have funds to care for the cemetery, and thus it deteriorated.

In 1980, the Marinette Cemetery Board requested the Green Bay Catholic Diocese. A proposal was made to let the Board care for the cemetery. It is not clear if change of ownership was intended nor is it clear if this proposal was ever approved.

Today, Calvary Cemetery sits on a plot of land owned by the City of Marinette.
