"The first pioneers to settle in the Selah Valley, in 1865-66,
picked a [cemetery] site on the McAllister homestead, located about
in the middle of the Selah Valley. Mr. McAllister buried a child there
in 1869 and later his wife. Quite a number of Selah's dead were buried
there before 1885. However, with the coming of the railroad through
the Selah Valley, which was laid out to pass through a portion of this
cemetery, it was abandoned. Some of the bodies were later removed and
reburied at Yakima City and today there is no trace of the first cemetery
at Selah."
