Anderson Family Cemetery
Yakima County, Washington
Submitted by Judy Schuster, Sep 27, 2000 [upperwenas@fairpoint.net].
Total records = 7.
This inactive cemetery is considered by many to be in Yakima County,
since access to it is through the county. But it actually lies just
inside Kittitas County, because the highway through the area is the
county line and land lying on the northwest side of the highway belongs
to Kittitas County. Gravestone inscriptions were copied by Mrs. Jan
Weston, Mrs, Myrtle Steindorf and others of the Anderson Family on Oct
25, 1969 and were published in the Yakima Valley Genealogical Society
Bulletin. Permission for the use of that published information was granted
by YVGS on Nov 6, 1999.
The cemetery is about 2 miles West of the Naches Ranger Station on the
Chinook Pass Highway and just above and across from the Pine Cone Inn.
To reach it from the highway, turn right on Gold Creek Road and almost
immediately turn right again at the first sign for 2-3 summer homes. The
cemetery is on the hillside in the forest and is surrounded by a sturdy
and attractive wire fence. It contains six graves and the enclosure is
ornamented by a couple of wild rose bushes and a lilac bush and is carpeted
with pine needles. The Anderson family lived nearby until they built their
home on the land which has since become known as the Anderson Ranch.
I have not personally visited this cemetery, and I know that there has
been numerous changes to the area since the cemetery was transcribed in
1969.
