Elberton Cemetery

2½ mi south of Elberton. To reach this cemetery, take Draper Brown Rd over the bridge onto Oral Smith Rd, cross 2 bridges, in ½ mi take a left onto a dirt road. Then take the lane across field to cemetery on the left.

I am told this was also called the Dalles Cemetery, but I can find no proof of that, so I will just call it the Elberton Cemetery, after the town, which is now a community.

The cemetery appeared to be well over an acre in size, and it made me wonder why there were so few markers to be found. I understand Elberton was a much larger town years ago, so perhaps they thought they would need the room.

Some of the markers were very difficult to read. If anyone knows of a burial in this cemetery which has no marker, I would be pleased if you would share the information with me.

I first surveyed this cemetery, Aug 23, 2002, using a digital camera and have a photo of all existing stones. I have since added other names as I find them, which have no stone.
