Grandview (Kettle Falls IOOF) Cemetery
Kettle Falls, Stevens County, Washington
Contributed by Maggie Rail, Aug 28, 2000 [mrail@asisna.com].
Total records = 61.
Grandview cemetery was established about 1895, aka "Kettle Falls IOOF
Cemetery" and often referred to as the "Old Kettle Falls Cemetery". This
cemetery was walked by Vicki Morris and I on Aug 16, 2000. It sits atop
a hill amid evergreen trees, southwest of Kettle Falls WA. To reach it
from Hwy 395, driving west from Kettle Falls, WA turning left or south
onto Hwy 25, or Kettle Park Rd, continue for about 3.2 miles. Turn left
onto an unmarked road just after the culdesac, the cemetery will be on
your left in less than a mile. Sec 36 of T36N R37E
I am told it was the original cemetery for Kettle Falls before the Columbia
River was raised putting the town underwater. At this time Kettle Falls
moved to what was then Meyers Falls, and now is Kettle Falls. This cemetery
became abandoned when they started using the Meyers Falls cemetery.
It was evident when we were there that someone is working on Grandview,
to restore this long uncared for cemetery. A new fence and sign are completed,
clearing out around all the headstones has been done, plus an area for
commemorating veterans was built in the center of the cemetery with a
special place to display the flag. There is a great deal of unused land
available for many more burials.
A sheet hangs on a board at each of the two entrances to the cemetery
listing burials in the cemetery. When I finished compiling what Vicki
Morris and I read, I compared with this list. An asterisk * has been placed
after any additional listings from this sheet. This means there is no
headstone for those with an asterisk. I also compared with a reading done
by EWGS pub. 1976, 'Stevens County Cemeteries', a double asterisk ** is
after any addition from their work.
