[mrail@asisna.com]. Total
records = 60.
To reach this cemetery from Hwy 395, driving west from Kettle Falls,
WA, turning left or south onto Hwy 25, continue for about 1.7 miles.
Turn right onto the unmarked Kettle Falls Landfill Road just after
the culdesac, the cemetery will be on your left in in about 1.5
mile, sitting atop a hill amid evergreen trees.
Grandview cemetery was established about 1895 as the Kettle
Falls Cemetery. Today it is often referred to as the "Old Kettle
Falls Cemetery" which the sign at the cemetery says. I do not
know when the name was changed to Grandview Cemetery. This cemetery
is maintained by the Grandview Cemetery Association.
After transcribing this cemetery, I find out there are two
older Kettle Falls cemeteries. This one and another one called
IOOF Cemetery. I have the deed for the IOOF Cemetery and it
appears to be the second one, as it was established in 1913.
Is there anyone who knows where a list of those buried in the
IOOF Cemetery could be found, I would love to obtain a copy?
I have found it's location and it is apparently now underwater,
being one of the flooded cemeteries from the Columbia River
raising.
It was evident when we were there that someone is working on
Grandview, to restore this long uncared for cemetery. A new
fence and sign are completed, clearing out around all the headstones
has been done, plus an area for commemorating veterans was built
in the center of the cemetery with a special place to display
the flag. There is a great deal of unused land available for
many more burials.
A sheet hangs on a board at each of the two entrances to the
cemetery listing burials in the cemetery. When I finished compiling
what Vicki Morris and I read, I compared with this list. An asterisk
* has been placed after any additional listings from this sheet.
This means there is no headstone for those with an asterisk. I
also compared with a reading done by EWGS pub. 1976, 'Stevens
County Cemeteries', a double asterisk ** is after any addition
from that work.
This cemetery was walked by Vicki Morris and I on Aug 16, 2000,
using a digital camera. Any additions after that date came from
obits.
