When his wife died, W. H. "Will" Short, honored her with a memorial
by donating 23 acres of land to the town of Deer Park for the creation
of Woodland Cemetery. According to his son, Short "had his lawyer draw
up the necessary papers to form an association, had the by-laws prepared,
and had the acreage plotted to blocks and lots, and roads and walks
and small garden areas. The gift also included a specially printed set
of books for elected officers to use in keeping records." Florence Short's
remains were moved to the cemetery shortly after it was opened in 1908.
Will Short is buried next to his wife.
