To reach this cemetery from Hwy 2 go north on the Elk-Chattaroy road to Elk. Turn right onto Bridges Rd and continue to Madison road where you will take a left, it is ahead about 1 mile on the right side of the road.

Modern Woodman Cemetery was the first name for this cemetery and it is sometimes called the Camden Cemetery because the small town of Camden, which is in Pend Oreille County, is about 1¼ miles north and most likely used it in the early days. The cemetery is in Spokane county, about one mile south of the county line. It is now owned and maintained by Elk Cemetery District #4 and they have renamed it Elk Cemetery #2. The county calls it the "Modern Woodman Cemetery of Camden."

Modern Woodman cemetery, listed as 6.45 acres in size, was dedicated Aug 06, 1921. In Dec of 2003 the Elk Cemetery District #4 had this cemetery surveyed to define all the boundaries. They have only used a small part of that acreage up to now, which looked like about an acre fenced and in use when I visited and read the cemetery. It extends into Sections 4, 3 and 9 also.

I have transcribed this burial list from my readings done on Jul 15, 1999, when I walked the cemetery. I found this cemetery to be in great need of care, but it is still being used for burials. Sometime recent, a Boy's Scout project placed markers on many of the missing headstones. I then compared my readings with those done by Mr. & Mrs. W.A. Blundell and Mr. & Mrs. W. L. Lartigue May 30, 1959 and was able to fill out a date or two, but basically we had a similar listing except for the new listings.

I was unable to obtain Sexton files and/or information from the Elk Cemetery Association. They have refused any help of this type.
