To reach the cemetery from Twisp go south on Hwy 153 about 1.5 mi
from the junction of Hwy 20, turn left onto Beaver Creek Road. The
cemetery is located on the right at the top of the hill.
The sign as you enter says "Beaver Creek Cemetery Memorial Garden.
It is owned and cared for by the Okanogan Cemetery District #2.
This cemetery consists of several pieces of donated land, comprised
of several old cemeteries combined into one larger cemetery, one
being the old Silver Cemetery. No date of beginning, and many
burial spots have no marker and no recorded name of who is buried
there. It is now platted and all known burial plots have been
identified.
A very difficult cemetery to read, the terrain is uneven making it difficult to remember where you have been. The newer sections have been platted with better planning that the older sections. When it is from one of the older sections, a note is made of that in the location.
Matt Morris and I walked and read this cemetery on Apr 06, 2000. I transcribed from these readings after which I compared our work with the Okanogan County Cemetery Records pub. in 1991 by OGS. Since that time I have acquired the sexton files, so this is a complete revision of that previous reading. Information is added from the sexton files without saying which is changed. I usually try not to change what the marker says, but with this update, I have added to the reading, without making a notation, when it seemed appropriate.
I still do have more information but tried to stay with what the marker usually has. This still may not be all the names. The early burials sometimes were not identified properly if at all. It has been a continuing project for the Cemetery Association to find all of those buried here.
If an individual had more than one marker, I combined the information into one reading. Usually it is because of a military stone added some time later. If a mistake is found or an entry missing, please contact me and I will be happy to make the correction if you have proof.
I used my digital camera for part of the reading of this cemetery
in 2000.
