Cemetery History

Translated from the Italian as Hunters of Africa, an Italian lodge named in honor of Italian infantry who invaded parts of Africa, including Libya, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, during Italian colonization in the late 19th century. The local Lodge was founded in Roslyn in 1889.

Notes

Cemetery is in very good condition and well cared for.  There is plenty of parking.   The oldest marked grave was from 1909 with the most recent burial in 1983.

Per the sign at the cemetery “Cacciatori D’Africa” means Hunter of Africa and was an Italian Lodge founded in 1900.

Cemetery Records

Records below were compiled by Suzanne Livingstone in April 2018 during a visit to the cemetery. These are the stones that are visible.  It is possible there may be other stones, some of which are no longer legible.  At least two other possible burial plots were noted with no info and/or illegible info.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
