Total records = 2,613. From the main street which is Basin Street,
drive northwest on 3th Ave SW to D Street. Cemetery is on the corner, located
near the area called Beezley Hill. This cemetery is owned
and maintained by the city of Ephrata. It is managed by a Cemetery Board under
the wing of the city council. Records may be found in the office of the city clerk. The
cemetery area is covered with selected trees, giving a serene beauty around the
grounds. It has about three sections, which appear to have room still for new
burials. There are many places where a headstone is missing or never had one,
and some were illegible. The records at city hall also do not have all of the
complete burials, therefore many names will be missing. I first typed up
my transcription from the photos I took when I was there in June. I then compared
this work with the city records. I found many differences in names or spelling,
so I went with the reading on the stone when that occurred. There may be duplications
if I was unsure whether it was the same person. In some instances I found readings
that are not listed in the city records. They have all the records of the burials,
with many instances of no name or a name with no dates. I apologize for any errors
I might have made. Earliest burial I found was in 1873. I
walked and read this cemetery on Jun 23, 2004, using a digital camera. I am happy
to share the photos I have. Those followed by an asterisk * are listings I do
not have a photo of. Those records came from the Sexton files, and either have
no marker, or the photo was not good. Many stones were worn or buried, not revealing
the inscription well enough to read. - Maggie Rail
