Washington Family Cemetery
Westmoreland County, Virginia

Cottage Farm Road, Oak Grove VA

Lat: 38° 10' 16"N, Lon: 77° 01' 24"W

Contributed by Anne Braun, May 18, 2005, last edited Feb 02, 2006 [annieb1961@comcast.net]. Total records = 24.

From Hwy 3 and Rte 634, turn on Rte 634 and go 1.2 miles south/southeast until you reach Cottage Farm Road (Rte 636). Turn there and go .5 miles south/southeast until you see a steel farm gate. Turn there and park. You must walk northwest through a field for .2 miles. The cemetery is in a middle of a field and it is fenced. There is a road there but it looks like it is no longer in use.

This cemetery belongs to the Washington Family. The descendants of Lawrence and Augustine Washington who were George Washington's older half brothers. The cemetery is in fair shape. The last burial took place in 1983.

Some of the Washington family who are buried here, were related to the Francis Lightfoot Lee and General Robert E. Lee families, who lived in the same part of the country.

This is a complete reading of all existing and legible headstones from when I visited this burial site on Apr 29, 2005.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
