History

Evergreen Burial Park was established in 1916 in what was then Roanoke County. The cemetery was originally created by three men, A.G. Chewning, C.M. Armes, and C.B. Cole, who formed the "Evergreen Development Company" in 1915. Because the old City Cemetery was already at capacity, the three men found themselves with a business opportunity.

Evergeen Burial Park was situated closer to Roanoke City than most other cemeteries in the County, and it would also be set up as a perpertual care cemetery, where a portion of revenues would be set aside for on-going maintenance, something other nearby cemeteries did not offer.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
