History

West Point Cemetery is located in the western point of Elmwood Cemetery, at the intersection of Armistead Ave and E. Princess Anne Rd. It was originally named, "Calvary Cemetery" and had been set up in 1873 as a potter's field for the city's Black population. It wasn't until 1885 that the name was changed to West Point Cemetery.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
