To reach this cemetery, from the intersection of Rte 3 and Madison/Main Sts in center Culpeper, drive 6.1 mi east on Rte 3. Turn left onto York Road, church is on the immediate left and the cemetery is behind the church.

This is a rural church graveyard on about -acre of land, directly behind the church. It is in primitive condition with no obvious maintenance. Gravesites are grassy mounds marked with headstones or temporary metal markers. Present church building was built in 1990 as per cornerstone. Earliest legible burial was 1930, unmarked grassy mounds may represent earlier burials.

The graveyard is owned by the Saint Stevens Baptist Church, current minister is Pastor N. Gray. Phone: (540) 399-1643.

Some maps and other sites on the internet list this as Saint Stephens Church and Cemetery or Saint Stephens Baptist Church and Cemetery. - Editor's note

I walked the grounds and recorded all legible inscriptions on the headstones and metal markers, as of Apr 18, 2011.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
