Brown Cemetery
Limestone County, Texas

Lat: 31°19'01"N, Lon: 96°37'27"W

Contributed by Bruce Jordan, Aug 10, 2003 [bjordan@glade.net]. Total records = 13.

One mile north of Kosse on Highway 14. The cemetery is clearly visible on the right side of the road.

Ervin and Matilda Brown bought 1600 acres in Limestone County in 1857. They are both buried in this cemetery. The earliest documented burial is that of Mary Ann Brown in 1865, who was the wife of Ervin's son, James Petty Brown, who served as a Captain in the Confederate States Army and as a member of the Texas House of Representatives in 1879-1880. Another of Ervin's sons, Thomas Jefferson Brown, was Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court from 1911 to 1915. The cemetery remains in use by the Brown descendants.

Marker present in 1950, but not found when cemetery was read in 2003 *

Linda Jordan and I read this cemetery in Jan 2003, which includes all existing headstones.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
