Cook Cemetery
Lampasas, Lampasas County, Texas

Lat: 31° 03' 24"N, Lon: 98° 10' 26"W

Contributed by James Tressell, Jun 06, 2007 [carverofwood1260@wmconnect.com]. Total records = 16.

Located at the corner of the Central Texas Expressway (highway 190) & Western Street in Lampasas, Texas, in the Wal Mart parking lot.

This is a small cemetery. The Texas Historical Plaque tells about the origin of this cemetery. This cemetery was first used in 1854 while Texas was still only a Republic. The land was purchased from the original settlers in 1861 by a Mr. Cook, thus the name of the cemetery today.

The cemetery was forgotten about for many years and was in a very dense parcel of woods. It was re-discovered when construction was begun on a Wal Mart Store. This cemetery is in the parking lot of this store.

There are several unmarked graves in this cemetery. One is marked with a Texas Star and the Inscription Citizen of the Republic of Texas 1836-1846. Some graves are surrounded by rock walls. The cemetery is now maintained by the City of Lampasas.

I walked and read this cemetery on Jun 02, 2007.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
