Washita Cemetery
Near Canadian, Hemphill County, Texas

Lat: 35° 41' 32"N, Lon: 100° 21' 45"W

Contributed by Lyle Keeton, Jan 06, 2005 [lskeeton@door.net]. Total records = 143.

The cemetery is located approximately 15 miles south of Canadian, Texas at the intersection of FM 277 and CR 11.

Washita Cemetery was opened in 1912 to bury Winifred Thompson, d/o Roy Thompson and my great-granduncle. It is still being used today.

I believe that Hemphill County is the owner and caretaker of the property. It is well maintained by the county crews.

This is a complete transcription of all existing and legible headstones and markers as of Mar 30, 2004, when I read the cemetery.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
