Cemetery History
Often referred to just as "St. Mary's Cemetery", this is the primary cemetery of St. Mary's Catholic Church. It was established in 1875 after the Church determined its original Pioneer Cemetery was too far from the town's center.
The oldest part of the cemetery is found in the northwest corner. It was originally enclosed by a rock wall laid without mortar. Later additions were enclosed with cast-iron fencing by Rogers Fencing Company of Springfield, Ohio, which was reused from the 1882 Gillespie County Courthouse after the new courthouse was completed in 1939.
The most recent expansion of the cemetery is at the south side.
