Cooke Burial Ground
South Strabane Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania

Lat: 40° 12' 22"N, Lon: 80° 14' 41"W

From intersection at Rt. 19 South at Washington Mall/Home Depot, make right onto Oak Springs Road. At end of Oak Springs Rd. at intersection, make a right onto Locust Ave. Travel a few hundred feet and make a left onto Country Club Rd. Make left onto Enterprise Rd. Proceed on Enterprise Rd. a short way past Fairway Drive. The dirt lane goes over the hill and bears off to the right. As soon as you bear right, the cemetery is on the right through a path in the woods behind the Washington Country Club Clubhouse.

The condition of this privately owned family burial site is generally good. For a long time, it was overgrown, then a boy scout undertook the restoration of the cemetery as his Eagle Scout project at least 10 years ago. Since then, for a long time it was always visible from the interstate and seemed to be taken care of. At this time (July 2005) the cemetery is not visible from the interstate and is quickly becoming overgrown.

I was under the impression that the land now belonged to the Cameron family who owns the Washington Country Club though I am not positive about that. I assumed that because the cemetery is located behind the country club clubhouse.

I visited and read this cemetery in 2003. This includes all existing and legible headstone readings at that time.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
