B'nai Zion New Cemetery
Danville, Montour County, Pennsylvania

Lat: 40°57'15"N, Lon: 76°35'59"W

Contributed by David Z. Richards, Sr., Sep 05, 2002 [david.richards@verizon.net]. Total records = 70.

Take Rt. 11 north out of Danville towards Bloomsburg, PA. as you leave Danville, the Senior High School is on your right. At red light by the high school, turn right onto State Hospital Drive and continue to Wall Street where you turn right. Fairview Cemetery is still on your right. At end of Fairview Cemetery is New Jewish Cemetery on Wall Street.

Folklore has it that in the 19 century, a Russian Jewish child died and the local German Jews would not let her be buried in their Jewish Cemetery. As a result of this the Russian Jewish community started their own New Jewish Cemetery locate about 100 yards from the Old Cemetery.

This cemetery is maintained by the local FNB Bank, N.A. in trust.

This transcription is prepared from my readings when walking the cemeteries in 2002. Some of the stones are in Hebrew, which I am unable to translate.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
