Mount Zion Cemetery
Bluff, Greene County, Pennsylvania

Lat: 39° 48' 05"N, Lon: 80° 18' 35"W
Jackson Township

Contributed by Brad Jarvis, Oct 13, 2009, last edited Oct 20, 2009 [forza@windstream.net]. Total records = 329.

From the Route 18/Route 21 split in west Waynesburg, follow Route 21 West approximately 6.5 miles through the town of Rogersville to a blinking yellow light. Turn left at the light and continue for another .4 miles. Make a left on to Hargus Creek Road, passing by West Greene High School. Follow for 5.2 miles until you come to the small town of Bluff and a T intersection at the top of a large hill. Turn left onto Bluff Ridge Road and follow for .1 miles. Make a right onto Mount Zion Road and follow for .3 miles. The cemetery will be on your right. The old Mount Zion Church is located across the road. It is now called The Place of Grace.

This cemetery offers scenic views, is in very good condition and is maintained on a regular basis. The cemetery has a sign and is surrounded by a fence but can be accessed through several gates. A few of the stones are down, but most are still legible. I found nine fieldstone markers as well as three bases without a stone. Five stones are no longer legible.

I have included portions of a transcription by Dorothy and James Hennen written on 2 May 1976 for the stones that are difficult to read today. Portions of them are still identifiable, but they are very difficult to read. These entries are marked with an (*).

I walked the cemetery on 27 Sep 2009. This transcription is complete and includes all existing stones. I also have digital photographs of all the stones as well as many views of the cemetery itself and would share them with anyone interested.

    cemetery records

A free online library of cemetery records from thousands of cemeteries across the world, for historical and genealogy research.

    Clear Digital Media, Inc.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
