Higgins Cemetery
Holbrook, Greene County, Pennsylvania

Lat: 39° 50' 35"N, Lon: 80° 21' 39"W
Jackson Township

Contributed by Brad Jarvis, Oct 15, 2009, last edited Oct 21, 2009 [forza@windstream.net]. Total records = 127.

At the Route 18/21 split just west of Rogersville, make a left at the blinking yellow light on to Route 18 South. Follow for 2.5 miles until you come to the small town of Holbrook. Make a right on Bristoria Road and follow for 3.1 miles. Make a left on to Higgins Cemetery Road and follow for .5 miles. The entrance to the cemetery will be on your left and it is marked by a sign. You have to follow a dirt lane approximately a quarter mile up a hill to reach the cemetery. You should be able drive up the lane during the warm weather months, but during other times of the year it may be difficult to reach unless you have a four wheel drive vehicle.

The cemetery is in very good condition and is maintained on a regular basis. It is surrounded by a fence but acccess can be gained through a gate. All of the stones are standing and most are still fully or somewhat legible. The last burial took place in 1967. I found one fieldstone marker as well as one base with no stone. There are also five stones that are either completely illegible or only the surnames can be read.

I walked the cemetery on 12 Oct 2009. This transcription is complete and includes all existing stones. I also have digital photographs of all the stones as well as many views of the cemetery itself and would share them with anyone interested.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
