Hamilton Cemetery
Greene County, Pennsylvania

Lat: 39° 45' 42"N, Lon: 80° 24' 30"W
Freeport Township

Contributed by Brad Jarvis, Dec 03, 2009, last edited Dec 04, 2009 [forza@windstream.net]. Total records = 38.

From the Route 21/Route 18 split just west of Rogersville, turn onto Route 18 south and follow for 11.8 miles. Make a left on to Jollytown Road and go less than a tenth of a mile to the first farm on the left owned by the Stoneking family. The cemetery is located atop a large hill on the farm. The cemetery is surrounded by an old fence, but trees have fallen across it in certain areas.

This cemetery is abandoned and in poor condition. About half of the stones have fallen, yet all but a few are still fairly legible. I found 14 fieldstone markers. The last burial took place in 1939. As with any cemetery located on private property, always ask permission from the landowner before going to it.

I walked the cemetery on Nov 28, 2009 with my friend Charles Newman. This transcription is complete and includes all existing stones. I also have digital photographs of all the stones as well as many views of the cemetery itself and would share them with anyone interested.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
