Estel Cemetery
Bluff, Greene County, Pennsylvania

Lat: 39° 48' 39"N, Lon: 80° 18' 28"W
Jackson Township

Contributed by Brad Jarvis, Mar 28, 2009, last edited Jul 04, 2009 [forza@windstream.net]. Total records = 4.

From the Route 18/Route 21 split in west Waynesburg, follow Route 21 West approximately 6.5 miles through the town of Rogersville to a blinking yellow light. Turn left at the light and continue for another .4 miles. Make a left on to Hargus Creek Road, passing by West Greene High School. Follow for 5.2 miles until you come to the small town of Bluff and a T intersection at the top of a large hill. Turn left onto Bluff Ridge Road and follow for .1 miles. Make a right onto Mt. Zion Road. Follow for .7 miles. A house will be on your left and an access road to a gas well will be on your right. The Jones family lives in the house and owns the land on which the cemetery sits. The access road leads eventually the the gas well and a small hill. Once at the top of this small hill the cemetery will be visible in the middle of a field.

The road is accessable with a four wheel drive vehicle but depending on the time of year could be very muddy and deeply rutted. Please ask permission from the land owner before going to the cemetery.

The cemetery is in poor condition and is not maintained. Trees and brush have grown around it. All the stones are down and very difficult to read. Two of the stones only have small portions that remain legible. I have included portions of a transcription by Dorothy and James Hennen written in 1968 due to the fact that the stones today are virtually impossible to read. These entries are marked with an (*).

I walked the cemetery on 14 Mar 2009. This transcription is complete and includes all existing stones. I also have digital photographs of all the stones as well as many views of the cemetery itself and would share them with anyone interested.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
