The Homewood Cemetery is a not-for-profit corporation.

History

The Homewood Cemetery was established in 1878, based on the lawn park movement that grew out of the 1830s. The cemetery association purchased 178 acres from the "Homewood" estate of Judge William Wilkins, and serves Pittsburgh's "East End" area. Today, the cemetery sits at 204 acres. The cemetery has sections for Jewish, Muslim, Chinese, Quaker, Greek Orthodox and Indian.

In 2002, The Homewood Cemetery purchased its neighbor, Smithfield East End Cemetery.

Noted burials include jazz musician, Errol Garner, and Heinz Company founder, Henry J. Heinz.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
