This Cemetery is an old Pioneer Cemetery, located at, Bellevue, Yamhill
County, Oregon. It is on the Joseph Danforth donation Land Claim which
was purchased by Abraham Tharp before 1860. Most of the individual who
are buried here are descendants of Abraham and Margaret (Stewart) Tharp.
If you are headed Southwest on Highway 18, towards Bellevue, Just
as you pass small sign which says "Bellevue" you will see Lawrence Gallery
on the right side of the road, turn left onto Muddy Valley Road. Then
turn right on to Deer Creek Flats Road, this is a gravel road. Proceed
down gravel road, less than a mile, past a farmhouse on the left and
a short distance from there (before you get to a bridge). On the right
side is a dirt road, looks like a pull out. In a grove of trees, up
on a small hill is the cemetery. There is no road to it, you have to
walk in, the site is very brushy, and has lots of overgrowth. Some of
the tombstones are buried in thorns, so you can't get to them.
If you are headed Northeast, take Highway 22 northeast from Sheridan,
Oregon about two miles to Bellevue. Turn right on Muddy Valley Road, then
right right on Deek Creek Road. a sign points to Ballston. Turn right
on a gravel road, continue a short distance to a bridge. Do not cross
the bridge. Turn right on a dirt road. the cemetery is straight ahead
on the brow of a hill. you can see a tombstone framed against the skyline

and myself, Carylon Viuhkola, both walked the cemetery on Apr 5, 2001
My daughter, Edith, took the pictures of the tombstones with my digital
camera. I abtracted the information for each stone on site, using a
cemetery transcription form. When I got home, I then entered the information
into my data base, using both pictures and written abstractions.
Additional entries have been added which have no headstones or markers
now. I transcribed these from Yamill County Cemetery Records Volume
II, pub. 1981. An asterisk * has been added to each of these entries.
I think the Davis stones are there but we couldn't get to them through
the thorn bushes that were about 3 feet tall. We were pretty bloody,
from scratches as it was when we left.
