Saint Peter Cemetery
Marlboro Township, Stark County, Ohio

Lat: 40° 55' 21"N, Lon: 81° 15' 47"W
Marlboro Township, T20N R7W Sec 29

Submitted by Tom Mason, Nov 11, 2009, last edited Nov 13, 2009 [tmason4@neo.rr.com]. Total records = 330.

The cemetery is located along the northern side of Saint Peter Church Road, 1/10 mile west of the intersection with Beeson Street in Marlboro Township. Saint Peter Cemetery covers 2 acres, shaped as a right triangle, Saint Peter Church Road runs diagonally and is its longest side, The cemetery boundary extends 500 feet north of the road, then 350 feet east, rejoining it. Cemetery gravestones run parallel to the road.

A progression of church buildings existed at this location, a Quaker log church, followed by Saint Peter Church, built by the German Lutherans and German Reformers. The latter was rebuilt in the 1870s and stood until fire claimed it in 1940. The site is now owned and maintained by Marlboro Township.

Two previous surveys of Saint Peter cemetery are referenced herein. A half-century ago, in 1955, E.T. Heald, H.T.O. Blue and R.D. Paxton surveyed and published "Cemetery Records, Stark County, Ohio" for the Stark County Historical Society. In 1982, the Stark County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society recorded and published this and other county cemeteries in a seven volume book set "Cemetery Inscriptions of Stark County, Ohio".

In this survey, row numbers start at the road. Gravesite numbering runs from east to west. This list includes 10 gravestones not previously documented. For the most complete summary, portions of the 1955 work were included when markers were unreadable. The 1982 work recorded gravesite locations. It is referenced when a marker has been relocated, as the 1982 record can provide a more accurate position for descendents visiting those relatives' burial sites

The following Saint Peter Cemetery gravestones were photographed, researched and compiled by me from Aug through Oct of 2009.

    cemetery records

A free online library of cemetery records from thousands of cemeteries across the world, for historical and genealogy research.

    Clear Digital Media, Inc.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
