To reach cemetery from Limaville, drive north on Hwy 183, turn left/west onto German Church Road and continue for about 1.5 mile, to Stroup Road. The cemetery is in the southwest corner of the intersection.

This cemetery is sometimes called Deer Creek Cemetery, because that is the area it is in. It is very near Walborn Reservoir (100 yds. or so). The Stark and Portage county line serves as the cemetery's north border. It is situated on the west side of McCullam Ave NE across from the former Deer Creek Quaker Meeting House.

There is an Ohio Historical Site plaque situated at the crossroads. It explains that the land on which the cemetery is located was donated by Isaac Coates, from Chester County, Pennsylvania. It goes on to say that Mr. Coates brought his family to Lexington in 1820 and that the name Deer Creek comes from the nearby stream and the numerous deer that can be found in the area. Isaac Coates is said to be buried here but I could not find his stone.

The cemetery is mowed throughout the summer but that is the extent of it's upkeep. Many of the stones are fallen, broken, or sinking into the ground.

This is a complete listing of all visible burials and was compiled using actual tombstone inscriptions. I walked and read this cemetery on Apr 18, 2006.

    cemetery records

A free online library of cemetery records from thousands of cemeteries across the world, for historical and genealogy research.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
