Description: This is an old cemetery - of the readable stones, the last date of death is 1918 (Elizabeth Depeyster).

A dedication stone is directly inside the gate, with the following inscription:

"PIONEER CEMETERY 1810
DEDICATED MAY 30, 1994 BY THE KENT HISTORIAL SOCIETY IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE HAYMAKER FAMILY AND OTHER EARLY SETTLERS OF KENT & FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP WHO LIE HERE IN ETERNAL PEACE"

Stones were read by rows from the West to the East. The first stone in each row is the stone at the north end of the row. This reading comprises the entire cemetery, and was completed from April through Jul, 2001. Row and plot numbers are included in the listing.

Many stones are broken, fallen down, and some are almost entirely covered by earth and moss. Where possible I dusted off stones, and etched with tracing paper to try to determine the transcription.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
