History

Moravian Cemetery was primarily used by a Moravian Church located in the Camden Valley from 1832 to 1869, but had been used for burials before then. It's believed that Philip Embury was the earliest burial in August 1773. Embury was later reinterred to Woodland Cemetery in Cambridge, New York.

The land on which the cemetery lies belonged to James Duane until his death in 1797. He was a member of the Continental Congress and was the first Mayor of New York City after the Revolution.

Cemetery Records

Records published here were acquired from the Salem Bancroft Public Library on November 1, 2016. These records were compiled by Ann Pongrace and David Male, August 1999. Dates of death range from 1784 to 1944.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
