History

The following history comes from the book, "Burying Grounds of Sharon, Connecticut, Amenia and North East, New York", by L. Van Alstyne and published in 1903...

In the beautiful sunny spot a short distance west of Amenia Union lie many of the early settlers of the Oblong valley The cemetery though one of the oldest in the town the earliest stone being inscribed 1749 is still used for burials being in excellent order and well cared for

The Oblong church where Rev Mr Knibloe preached so many years stood on the hill east of this burying ground almost on the Connecticut boundary line many of his congregation coming from Connecticut Amenia Union is sometimes called Hitchcock Corners.
