History

St. Joseph's Cemetery was consecrated on October 10th, 1880. The first burial occurred on October 17, 1880. According to records, however, a couple of burials had occurred here decades earlier (that of Clare McEvoy, 1830, and William Grace, 1840). Prior to St. Joseph's Cemetery, Catholics in Auburn were buried at the old Cemetery (known as the State Street Cemetery).
