Evangelical Protestant Cemetery is often referred to as, "German Evangelical Protestant Cemetery". It was established in 1853 by the "German Evangelical Protestant Society", which itself was established in 1850 as the second Evangelical parish in Albany. In 1876, the church allied itself with the Evangelical Synod of North America, an organization that would eventually become known as United Church of Christ today.

In 2012, the German Evangelical Protestant Society finally disbanded and closed its church. The church's land, buildings, and cemetery remained in the property of United Church of Christ, which immediately began looking for a buyer. Shortly afterwards, a group named, "Friends of the Evangelical Protestant Cemetery" was formed to continue care of the cemetery until a buyer could be found.

In 2018, the United Church of Christ sold the church land, building, and cemetery to another ministry called, "Healing from Heaven Friends Ministry", which stated they were only interested in buying the church, not the cemetery. But, the United Church of Christ required the new ministry to purchase both together.

As of this writing, Friends of the Evangelical Protestant Cemetery have documented their efforts to compel Albany City Council to force Healing from Heaven Friends Ministry to pay for maintenance of the cemetery.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
