Gold Dust Cemetery
Sierra County, New Mexico

Contributed by Marilyn Poitras, Jan 26, 2002 [lavelle@zianet.com]. Total records = 2.

From I25 take the Hillsboro turnoff to Hwy 152 west until you see a wide dirt road off to the right. Follow this road looking carefully to the left. You will see one iron fence surrounding a grave. This is the site of Gold Dust Cemetery.

Gold Dust was founded in the early 1920's by John Hanson. The town remained in operation until the late 1940's.

There is little left of this cemetery as it is on open range now and only three graves can be identified by initials. A total of 37 graves sites can be seen but they are unmarked.

Among these are some "small" graves. All visible graves have been recorded.

Cemetery was recorded Mar 31, 1996 by the Sierra Co. Genealogical Society and this information is used with their permission

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
