Greenlawn Cemetery is owned by the City of Keene.

History

Greenlawn Cemetery was established on May 8, 1889 when the City of Keene acquired land to extend the existing Woodland Cemetery located nearby. Eleven years later, on September 20, 1901, the city bought more land between Page St & North Lincoln St, and created a third cemetery, "Northeast Division Cemetery" (Today known as Woodland Northeast). The three cemeteries were often referred to as a single cemetery called, "Northeast Division".

Despite these dates of purchase, burials had already been occurring on these lands.

The large area of land that the Northeast Division encompassed opened up the opportunity for families to erect large monuments and above-ground tombs.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
