Cemetery History

Memorial Cemetery was established in 1931 when a man by the name of "Mr. Byers" purchased the land from the estate of Honorable Judge Samuel Maxwell. Byers obtained a charter to establish Fremont Memorial Park, now known as Memorial Cemetery Association, Inc.

The main visual draw in the cemetery is the "Tower of Memories", a structure made of Indiana Limestone. Inside the tower are a large number of stained glass windows, most of which were donated by lot owners. At one time it housed the Degan Chimes but now these chimes can be seen at the cemetery office. The tower has a small chapel on the main floor.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
