To reach this cemetery from Grand Forks ND. Take the I-29 north about 22 miles and exit at the Warsaw/Minto exit. Go west on County Road 15 about 60 miles and exit left at sign on Country Road 22 and drive 1 mile and turn left. Proceed ½ mile and the cemetery will be on your left. It is about 71 miles.

The cemetery has a sign ‘Zahradka 1917’ on the fence. (See photo on right) The ZCBJ Cemetery was organized in 1908 along with the ZCBJ Hall.

ZCBJ (Zapadni Cesko-Bratrska Jednota) or Western Bohemian Fraternal Association organization, as a fraternal organization, provided security and ethnic solidarity for Czech immigrants in America. The hall was built in 1909 and razed in 1950 by Adolph Rysavy.

The first person buried in this cemetery was Mrs. Frank Novak in 1908. The cemetery has been referred to as the ‘Pecka’ Cemetery in many documents. St Catherine Church in Lomice can be seen to the south of this cemetery and this cemetery is surrounded by marshes teeming with wild life.

I walked and read this cemetery in late April 2006 using my digital camera. I am willing to share photos, and Walsh Co, Polish and Czech Genealogy information if anyone wishes to contact me.
