From Gilby, go 7 miles east on County Road 33 and turn south and go two miles on gravel road. Or 3 mi east of Mekinock on county Road and 1 mile north.

The land was deeded for purposes of a burial ground when probably a home- steader John Stewart died. The land was probably a cemetery for about 10 years. The cemetery contains the headstone of the Bakken Family. The mother and her two small children who died in a house fire on June 4, 1887.

Also buried there is the first born of Charles and Lottie Olson. (Lottie and her other children are buried at the Cottonwood Farm Cemetery.) The majority of the burials were interned in the Middle Grove Cemetery about 2-3 miles southeast of the Lakeville Cemetery after 1900.

All headstone inscriptions are written in Norwegian.

This is a work in progress, more to be added in the Spring, after the snow leaves and I can make another trip to the cemetery.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
