Byrd Cemetery
Foscoe, Watauga County, North Carolina

Lat: 35° 09' 45"N, Lon: 81° 46' 05"W

Contributed by Carl W Dykes, Nov 07, 2006 [cwdykes@charter.net]. Total records = 21.

Byrd Cemetery is located on Taylor Road in the Town of Foscoe. The Town of Foscoe is located on NC Highway 105 near Banner Elk. Taylor Road is a dead end street and the cemetery is located about 50 yards from the road on a small wooded rise.

This cemetery is in bad shape. It has been allowed to return to the wild. It is covered with leaves, broken tree limbs and new plant life. The stones are in pretty good shape considering the environment.

I understand that the cemetery is privately owned by members of the Coffey family. The history of the cemetery is unknown. Although it is not the oldest grave in the cemetery, the cemetery is named in honor of W. H. Byrd who as an engineer, laid out the town of Foscoe. No contact information is available.

I completed reading and transcribing this cemetery from all existing and legible headstones and markers in Oct 28, 2006.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
