Sauls Cemetery
Garner, Wake County, North Carolina

Jordan Road
Garner NC. 27529

Lat: 35°38'19"N, Lon: 78°37'01"W

Contributed by Shirley Olson, Feb 25, 2002 [shirley32olson@yahoo.com]. Total records = 13.

Directions: From Hwy. 440-40 (Raleigh Beltline) on the south side of Raleigh, take Exit # 298, South Saunders St., (Hwys. 70, 401, and 50) , to the split at Tryon. Bear right onto Hwy. 401 (Fayetteville Rd.) Go about 5 miles to the traffic light at Ten-Ten Road and turn left (east). Stay on 1010 Rd. about 3 or 4 miles until you get to Jordan Rd., just before Ten- Ten dead ends on Hwy 50 ( Benson Rd.) Turn left onto Jordan Rd. and go 100 ft. or so.

On the left are some ramshackle farm buildings and a broken down trailer. Behind them, surrounded by a low block wall, covered in brambles and totally neglected and uncared for, is this family cemetery.

Many descendants of the Sauls family live near this cemetery. It looked hopeless until my husband, Gordon Olson, carefully chopped paths through the brambles so that I could record this cemetery. Cattle are grazing on the surrounding lush pasture inherited from this family.

This valuable land is in a rural area that is evolving into subdivisions and commercial properties. The sad condition of the cemetery is a reproach to those who fail to maintain it. There may be more graves than those recorded here since it was impossible to clear all of the cemetery. Most of the stones are broken.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
