Wayne County, Michigan Civil War Grave Sites
Index

Contributed by Richard E. Carden, Commander, S.U.V.C.W. Camp 427, Dept. of Michigan [UA636@cs.com].

Our Camp, The Sergeant John S. Cosbey Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, located in Dearborn, Michigan, has compiled over 1,000 burial sites of Union Civil War Veterans.  This project is in conjunction with the National Department of the S.U.V.C.W.

Our Camp has the jurisdiction of all of Western Wayne Co, in Michigan, including the Downriver area.  We do NOT cover the City of Detroit, Michigan, as that is under the jurisdiction of Camp 101, Dept. of Michigan.  Basically our Camp is "in charge" of all of Wayne County, Michigan, except for the City of Detroit.

This search for Union Veterans has been one of hard work...but a great deal of pleasure.  Basically we "hunted" all of the cemeteries within our area, first logging those with U.S. Civil War stones, then checking the names and dates in the data base of the Soldiers and Sailors of Michigan Civil War records for those with "non military" stones.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
