Take old highway 63 south out of Lucedale MS for a couple of miles and you will come to the intersection with highway 63 by-pass. Take a left (heading south), onto this highway 63 by-pass and continue south to the George/Jackson county Line. As you cross over into Jackson County turn right onto Old Americus Road and continue in a southwesterly direction for 2 miles. After the Cedar Creek Estates sign and entrance road on your right, stay on the Old Americus Road for another .1 tenth of a mile. You will have to park on the side of the road, walk across the road to the north side. Looking back west toward the Cedar Creek Estate sign, count the power poles on the north side of the road. Enter the woods half way between the second and third power pole. The cemetery is small and is located about 30 yards off the road.

This is a family cemetery which dates back to the late 1800s. It is surrounded by a small fence and is really in good shape for its age. It is maintained by the Steede family on the property of C.G. Steede.

Mr. Steede told me of two unmarked graves on the outside of the fence, which are burials of two persons not related to the Steede family, but needed a place to be buried. Mr. Steede also stated that he is trying to contact the landowner to see about purchasing the property the cemetery is on as well as a small right of way for access to the cemetery. This would ensure a way to the cemetery for upkeep and visitation of family members and others in the years to come.

Mr. C.G. Steede and I walked and read all existing and legible stones on Dec 21, 2007. We found only 7 marked graves at this time.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
