The Ferrill Cemetery is located just past the church on the left/south side of Wemberly Street, as you drive west off of Highway 613 in Escatawpa, MS. After you pass the church, you can find it situated behind a fence in back of the Robinson Cemetery.

This was primarily the Ferrill Family Cemetery until some time before World War I when it then became a community cemetery. The original Ferrill cemetery was land donated by John Wesley Ferrill, a Methodist minister, who founded the First Methodist Church in Escatawpa, about 1854. Isaac Roberts added to the cemetery area in 1916.

There are at least two hundred graves in this cemetery. Source of my history information was from the work of Harry H. McDonald, Jackson County Researcher, Jackson County Library, Pascagoula, MS.

Ferrill Cemetery is maintained by the McDonald family at this time. The oldest grave is that of Emaline (Hough) Ferrill, first wife of John Wesley Ferrill. She died after the birth of their daughter Sarah Amelia Ferrill, who died Dec 12, 1860.

I walked and read all existing and legible stones on Apr 14, 2005. There are several more graves that are not marked.
