The most famous person buried here is William Clark (of Lewis & Clark Discovery Corps). His remains were removed to here in 1860.

The cemetery comprises of 314 acres of land inside the City of St. Louis. There are currently 90,000 (approx) burials as of this publishing.

First Methodist Church South Records

In 1856, the First Methodist Church South (at the time was located on 8th St. & Washington in St. Louis) lost its cemetery (located on Franklin Ave) resulting from a lawsuit. Some of the bodies were removed to other cemeteries, but many more remained unmoved because there were no longer any family or friends to claim them. The church requested Bellefontaine Cemetery to sell them a lot of half-acre in size, to remove the unclaimed bodies. Bellefontaine Cemetery agreed and sold them a lot at a price of $500.00. The bodies now rest at (Blocks 191/192/194/195, Lot 719) is located on Meadow Avenue in the Meadow Hill area of Bellefontaine Cemetery.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
