Confederate Monument

A monument in Union Cemetery erected in 1912 to 15 Confederate prisoners of war who died in Kansas City and are buried in the cemetery as unknowns. A plaque on the monument reads:

"Erected by the United States to mark the burial place of fifteen Confederate Soldiers who died at Kansas City, Missouri, while prisoners of war and whose remains were buried in the city cemetery and subsequently removed to this cemetery, where the individual graves cannot now be identified."

The records below were provided to this website by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on July 2, 2000. The dates of death and burial, and plot information is highly susceptible; it may have been entered as "default information" to satisfy data entry requirements.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
