This Spruce Cemetery is located 6 miles east of Roseau MN on State Highway #11. You will see the cemetery on your right or south side, a short ways off the highway. The cemetery is on the west side of County Road #9.

This 2 acres of Spruce Cemetery was established in 1915 on land donated by Andrew C Jensen, to be used for both church and cemetery. The 1st burial could have been in 1903 that of a Mr. Albert Jensen. It was used by the 'Gol Menighets Kirke' meaning Gol Congregation.

The original Gol Church was moved to another location many years ago. A small replica of the original church is situated inside the cemetery. There is a 1912 Gol Menighet sign on the front of the building. It also displays a burial listing and older records as well as a photo of the church inside. All work completed by volunteers.

The township now owns this cemetery which has been in much need of improvements. It now has a very caring gracious warm appearance as a result of the many volunteers that have set a goal for the improvements to be done. Other volunteers are welcome qne donations are always welcome.

A listing of some of those buried here was obtained from Ludvig A. Lund and checking cemetery records in the surrounding area, we could not find any of these names buried elsewhere as many graves are no longer marked at this site, the cemetery is no longer used for burials, except for reserved burial lots.

Eunice Lund and I did a complete walk thru, reading all of the legible and existing headstones. This is a completed transcript as of Feb 01, 2011. A digital camera has been used for pictures.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
